Façades of Dissonance: A contemporary dance theater performance. It examines the evolution of pain that manifests within individuals as complicated defense mechanisms, and in social systems as disconnection and violence. Significant to recent events in America, as well as to our world for millennia, it explores how violence, power, greed and other facades mask deep individual and communal pain.
Themes explored in this piece are Fear, Defenses, Walls, Masks, Façades, Reality, Ripple Effects, Inner Layers, Individuality, Interconnectedness, and Healing in Nature.
This is a collaboration between Naropa graduates, Annie Lo (BFA, ‘15) and Victoria González (MFA, ‘15).
There will be 6 performances as a part of the 2017 Boulder International Fringe Festival.
Seeking: 3 Dancer/Actors
● Availability Requirements
- May 19 through Mid-July 2017= 2-3 rehearsals per week at a studio space in Boulder (rehearsal space TBA)
- Late-July through August 16 2017 = Increase to 2-4 rehearsals until the tech week and the run
- Approximately 15 weeks (with breaks) total including rehearsals and performances
● Performance Dates
- August 16-27 2017: 6 Performance dates between these weeks
- May 15 2017: Exact performance dates are TBA by the BIFF
- May 19 2017: Introductory and scheduling meeting, to go over details and fill out scheduling forms
● Dance Requirements
- Dance training preferred
- Other mind-body practices such as yoga, meditation, social dance, etc. may be accepted if enthusiastic to learn choreography
- Our process will include somatic, contemporary, ballet, jazz, modern, contemplative, improvisational movement research, butoh and other techniques
● Acting Requirements
- Significant acting training
- Our process will include contemporary, post-modern, view points, contemplative, improvisational research and other techniques
● Compensation
10-20% of ticket sale profits. Expect to be able to pay minimum $100/actor, conditional on net profit.
That considering, low-income actxrs and dancers are welcome to apply.
We would like our cast to reflect all forms of real real life diversity.
